Five places where you can still find old bus shelters

ANSWERS (17 Aug 2011) – Answers in red below the photos.

It’s not easy to find old bus shelters in Singapore nowadays. I am referring to those with orange and white stripes on the roof and orange plastic seats. Except for some really ‘ulu’ places like Lim Chu Kang Road and Old Choa Chu Kang Road, most bus shelters are of the modern kind like this one at Bukit Timah Sixth Avenue. Of course they can also be found as temporary bus shelters in areas where MRT construction is ongoing, such as Rochore Road and Bukit Timah Road.

Hence I was quite surprised to see them in some urban areas. In the process of travelling around Singapore, I have seen them is at least 7 or 8 such places. I tried to take some photos. But it is too troublesome and so I simply lifted the rest from Google Street View website.

Can you identify the locations where these 5 old bus shelters are found? I think No.1 has been upgraded recently.

Answer: Corporation Road. The buildings  behind are part of the Jurong Junior College.

Answer: West Coast Road near Teban Gardens. Behind the bus stop is the Pandan Reservoir.

Answer: Ubi Avenue 3 near to the Traffic Police Dept.

Answer: Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1 near Keat Hong Shopping Centre.

Answer: Jurong West Central 1.
Another quite unexpected place to see such an old bus stop is at Zion Road opposite the entrance to Great World City.

2's along West Coast Road, near Pandan Reservoir :)

Sehsuan's answers are both wrong. Anonymous is right. No. 2 is West Coast Road near Pandan Reservoir and Teban Gardens.

Finally I managed to put up a quiz that can stump my readers. Yes!

No. 1 is outside Jurong Junior College on Corporation Road. Could identify No.2 as West Coast Road too... They just happened to be near the schools I used to go to. Memories... haha.
No. 4 is along Choa Chu Kang Ave 1.

4 is along Lim Chu Kang Road. Just past the bridge over the MRT tracks. I used to take 172 to Tengah Airbase during my service days.

I could only identify bus stop 2 which the others have identified correctly.

I suspect there may still be one or two of those old bus stops with stone benches in some ulu corners of Singapore.

I believed such bus stops are the 80s era type? There are those of the concrete type which i am not sure if there are any still s tanding around. I remember reading an article on the Straits Times some years back on this.

My guess is that photos 3 and 4 are in Sin Ming. Photo 3 is near the old ROV (LTA) building and Photo 4 is probably near the Sin Ming Ave/Upper Thomson Road junction.

One reason why these old bus stops caught my interest is that some years ago I saw a very old concrete-type bus stop at Admiralty Rd. It was all broken down and covered with shrubs. I wanted to take a photo but as usual procastinated until the opportunity was lost.

By way, none of these photos are near Sin Min. Also not Lim Chu Kang as I alr said these are from quite urban areas.

Will reveal answers shortly; just in case more people want to give it a try.

All are in the west area! No. 5 is at Jurong West Central, near Jurong Point. Left with No. 3 now which I can't identify just yet though it looks familiar. haha...

The bus stop opposite Great World City is faced reversed and not out to the road in front of it, if anybody did notice.

Hey Burns Kazuo is right. I just checked on Google Stree View. How observant of you to notice

You can find an abandoned one on the left hand side of the road leading up to Anglican High School near Simpang Bedok.

There are some really, REALLY old bus shelters in Sembawang! In the black and white house area you can still see bus shelters that must have been put up in the 50s. And there's another one at Dahan Road, further along Admiralty Rd towards Woodlands.

There are a few more old bus shelters, sitting deep along the web of Lim Chu Kang cemetery roads. Strategically placed for old memories. lol
