Many of the children from the village were members as well as those whose parents were in the Air Force on the base. My fellow Rover Scouts also were involved in preparing the camp site at Jurong. This meant clearing trees and under growth. I also attended courses at Jurong run by the Singapore Scout Association. Happy days. Iam now 83 years oldAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09606319967548626353noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16760936.post-1152679164850004692006-07-12T12:39:00.000+08:002006-07-12T12:39:00.000+08:00John and his play-mates must have a terrific time ...John and his play-mates must have a terrific time in 'old' Singapore during his childhood years. To mix well with other races needs a lot understanding and a large dose of public relation skill which John obviously possesses naturally. As a kid, being an introvert, my world was confined within the compound of my kampong and the kids there. I was abe to make a foray into the British Naval Base only because my father worked there. On one occasion, during car ride, I saw row after row of RAF planes parked in the Changi Airbase and was quite impressed by the sight of it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16760936.post-1152499247855704312006-07-10T10:40:00.000+08:002006-07-10T10:40:00.000+08:00Hey, I was a scout too from 1969-72, if only becau...Hey, I was a scout too from 1969-72, if only because both NCC (National Cadet Corps) and NPCC (National Police Cadet Corps) didn't want me. I was from "1501 Arrow Group" (Victoria School). I had forgotten about the trinagular construction at the entrance and you have jogged my memory once again. I have just had a peek into the Singapore National Archives site where the photos came from. What a treasure trove of old photographs and images!

JohnJollyGreenPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05829814386239434664noreply@blogger.com
