So I really envy people who have opportunity to travel widely, experiencing the sights & sounds of different countries in their life-time. Business trips, though appreciated lack the 'oomph' - like what the Chinese describes as: 'viewing flowers while riding on a horse'. So keep on travelling.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16760936.post-1152372808612408772006-07-08T23:33:00.000+08:002006-07-08T23:33:00.000+08:00A great account of life as a British service child...A great account of life as a British service child. I also had a wonderful childhood in Singapore, on the small island of Pulau Brani, from 1958-1960 and 1963-1966. I have also written a small account elsewhere on this blog, I shall have to write some more now.
LynneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16760936.post-1152064944418901162006-07-05T10:02:00.000+08:002006-07-05T10:02:00.000+08:00John (aka Jollygreenp), next time you come back, b...John (aka Jollygreenp), next time you come back, be sure to contact me. Well the answer is no but I sometimes wish that I had done so. I think that my memory of Singapore is so good because I was there at a very impressionable age. I was 10 when we arrived and 12 when we returned to the UK. It is something that I have found hard to explain to people here in the UK how wonderful it was in Singapore in those days. It was something that you had to experience to fully understand it. I think this a feeling shared by many of the contributors to the Memories of Singapore website that Chun See has mentioned.

Call me a sentimental old fool but I love Singapore and love talking and writing about it. Each time that I depart from Changi airport I shed a small inward tear and hope that I'll be back someday soon. Since 1989 I have had 4 holidays in Singapore and have also stopped off several times on returning from work on a project in Malaysia. I always booked the early Friday morning flight down from KL and then spent the day in Singapore before catching the 23:30 flight back to London or one at a similar time to Zurich when I was working in Switzerland, another nice country but very different to Singapore.JollyGreenPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05829814386239434664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16760936.post-1151902615151930002006-07-03T12:56:00.000+08:002006-07-03T12:56:00.000+08:00John Harper certainly has an 'elephant memory' and...John Harper certainly has an 'elephant memory' and he was also able to absorb the sights and sounds of Singapore ways of life.
